When dealing with corporate clients, I think producers should contemplate an appropriate place for all these labels and take them into consideration on the product design.

The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way

Check out this very cool technology being developed by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University.

It will be very cool when the components get smaller and quality refined! Imagine this tech embedded in helmets, goggles, car roof/headrest, etc. It will open the possibility to interact with information and our environment in new ways, and allow us to push design in new directions.

Pimp your suitcase!

Nice idea! I guess it can be useful to find your suitcase in the belt.

Indifference towards people and the reality in which they live is actually the one and only cardinal sin in design.

Around 80.000 new cars are sold in China every month. It is nice that many people are fulfilling the dream of having their own (first) car… but they need to learn how to drive first!!! :)

Goals and objectives

As obvious as it may sound, it is extremely important to clarify the project goals and objectives before jumping to solutions.

Just to clarify: The Goals are the main purpose of the project. The Objectives are way to measure the goals. Example: If the Goal is to increase the market share, the objective could be set in terms of total units sold, sales revenue, total users, or other specific ways from the industry.

I often find out that many stakeholders have opposite goals and everybody has their own personal idea about how/what the project should be. This of course affects the project by changing directions every now and then until everybody involved understands the big picture and come to an agreement. On a softer side, it also affects the motivation and outcome of the human resources involved.

Much time and effort can be saved if goals and objectives are discussed in the beginning with the key people. A focused effort will help keep motivation and the project rolling smooth.

Lesson 2: If you want to keep great contributors, develop better managers. It’s one of the oldest clichés in HR, but it’s a cliché because it’s true: People join great companies, but they quit lousy bosses. That’s especially true for the most talented contributors. No matter the sense of purpose behind the organization, or the tools and resources at their disposal, great people want to do work they love, with colleagues they admire, and to be led by people who make them better.
